YouTube Shares the Top Performing Videos and Creators of 2021
Written by Courtney Raguso, Social Media Content Creator
YouTube was founded nearly 16 years ago on Valentine’s Day and was the start of something that would change the way we communicate and entertain. Within a year, its viewership went from 30 thousand a day to 25 million viewers. In October that next year, Google purchased YouTube for a cool $1.25 billion in a stock-for-stock transaction. In 2007, YouTube launched the Partner Program, which allows channels that meet certain metrics, currently 1000 subscribers and 4000 public watch hours in the past year, to earn money from ads that run during their videos. At first, videos were short amature videos uploaded from content creators. Just like today, the barrier to entry was pretty nonexistent and anyone could become a YouTube creator. The main difference now is the quality of the videos. A million views back in the day felt like a lot more than it does today, with videos receiving millions and even billions of views over time. YouTube clicks with consumers because it offers itself as an information and search hub. Whether it’s a funny #shorts video or long entertainment series, there’s a niche for everyone. YouTube has just recently announced its lineup for the top 10 videos and creators of the year, and some of it may or may not surprise you. Although these videos don’t necessarily have the most views on the platform, they earned a record-breaking number of views in a short time span. Let’s take a look.

YouTube is a platform that listens to their audience as well as their content creators, because they, too, are a part of their audience. It’s a space that offers a much higher level of authenticity that viewers just can’t get from polished productions seen on network and cable TV. Younger generations are especially drawn to this form of content because it’s more authentic and easier to consume. YouTube video success is directly tied to what its viewers want to watch and share. This is why it’s so important to focus on delivering value to your viewers instead of just using it as a promotion platform. To receive ad revenue, earnings are generated based on a share of advertising revenue from viewers watching your video. Regardless of the industry your business is in, having a YouTube connects you to a much larger audience. It gives you the ability to create playlists around specific topics that are relevant to your target audience. With well-optimized videos, your brand can have a massive reach to help you achieve your marketing objectives, and leverage YouTube’s platform to educate, entertain, and ultimately sell your audience.
