Has anyone ever told you to chase the algorithm because it will put you where you want to be, digitally? This isn’t necessarily true, especially in terms of Google’s search algorithm. Google tweaks its search algorithms at least once a day, with the aim of providing increasingly accurate results for every search query. It’s tempting to chase the algorithm because you want to get ahead of the competition and rank high on search engines; however, it’s almost impossible to successfully do this for a length of time. By chasing this algorithm, you are ultimately ignoring the bigger picture. 

Did you know, organic search drives over 50% of all website traffic – so if Google changes the rules, it can fundamentally affect the quantity and quality of online visits any business receives? You may conquer the current algorithm to find whatever strategy you’re implementing now won’t be valid to the next algorithm. So, you’re chasing a rabbit hole that goes in circles. In fact, Google isn’t up front about any changes they make, so you’ll never know the new updates on time. Why does Google change their algorithms so fast? Technology changes more quickly than we think, and this results in search engines having to adapt to stay relevant. There are some factors that will be a part of tomorrow’s algorithms that we’ll need to account for.

The best SEO Strategies are those that refuse to chase the algorithms, but rather understand what it is the algorithms are looking for with today’s changing technologies. Your content within your website and social media channels should be consistent and relevant to your target audience. It should be of value. If you’re far enough ahead of the web, then the algorithm will be chasing you!
