Ways to Boost Engagement on Social Media

By Samantha Coppola, Social Media Content Creator at MSM DesignZ, Inc. Being successful on social media doesn’t necessarily mean having the most followers on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. While it may seem really important to have a huge following (and a lot of businesses tend to focus on that aspect when building their presence online), being successful on social media means having your followers and customers engaging with your content (as well as you, the brand, engaging with your audience). Whether it’s commenting on a post or clicking to your website for a promotional offer, having an interactive audience that engages allows for your brand to grow. Engagement is key for social media success as a brand! You need your followers to engage with your content in order to build a strong social media presence.

According to Oberlo; “Social media engagement helps you strengthen your customer relationships. When customers engage with your posts or send you a message on social media you’re presented with an opportunity to get to know your customers and build a relationship with them. Answer their questions, respond playfully when appropriate, and go above and beyond to offer excellent customer service.”

When you engage with your followers on social media you can turn them from fans into customers, as well has build customer loyalty. Here are some ways on how you can boost your audience engagement on your social media platforms: Encourage Readers to Like, Comment and Share  When you post something on your social media platforms, it’s always a good idea to include a call-to-action. People are typically more likely to share a post or comment on it if you ask them too. By asking your audience to comment, like or share what you are posting on social media, it will also allow that post to spread to other people, meaning the content can be seen and viewed by other potential members of your target audience. Respond to all Comments

In order to increase social media engagement on your platforms, you need to be social too. When your followers send you a message or leave you a comment on your posts, they are giving you the opportunity to engage with them! Whether the comments are positive or negative from your followers, you should always respond to them. If it’s a positive comment, show appreciation and gratitude. If it’s a negative comment, propose a solution or a way to alleviate the issue. You can also read our article about “Dealing with Negative Feedback on Social Media”.

Post Content worth Engaging with If you want to have more engagement with your followers on your various social media platforms, it is important that you are creating and posting content that is interesting to your audience. There is a variety of content that you can post to generate engagement such as:
  • This or that
  • Proposing a question to your followers
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Polls
  • Live Q&A
  • Sharing videos
  • Asking your followers to share pictures/videos of them using your brand’s product or service (could also be referred to as user generated content, UGC)
  • Interactive Infographics
  • Motivational Quotes
  • Live Streaming on Facebook or Instagram
These are just some examples to choose from. The more creative and interesting your content is, the more likely your audience will be willing to engage with it. Run Contests and Giveaways This is one of the easiest ways to get more engagement on your social media platforms. Whether it’s hosting a caption contest, hashtag contest, photo contest, trivia or tag a friend, contests and giveaways are a great incentive to get your current following (as well as potential new customers) engaging with your content. People are more inclined to participate in contests or giveaways when they know there is some kind of “prize” awarded to the winner.  Schedule Your Content to be Posted when your Audience is Most Active From Facebook to Instagram to Twitter, there are certain times when people are most active on these social networks. You are able to see when your followers are most active on each specific platform through your profiles’ metrics and insights. Once you have determined what days and times are best to reach most of your fans, you should schedule your posts around those days/times. You can utilize social media scheduling platforms such as Buffer or Hootsuite to schedule your content. Create a Facebook Group to Build a Community
Having a seperate Facebook group from your business’s profile pages can allow for more personal interactions with your fans/customers. A Facebook group can also allow for engagements and interactions between individuals within that group; people can interact and communicate with one another based on similar interests, hobbies, tastes in correlation to what your business is/provides. It will also allow you as a brand to build on your reputation and customer loyalty as well.
